Chewy Spitz Cookies

I love spitz cookies! They remind me of the holidays and family. I love to make them with cream cheese so they are soft and chewy texture. I also like to add a little almond extract to help mute the sweetness. Give them a try and let me know what you think!


1 cup (2 sticks) butter, room temperature

3 ounces cream cheese

1 cup sugar

1 egg yolk

2 teaspoon almond extract

2 1/2 cups flour

food coloring (if desired)

Sprinkles (if desired)


Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Cream butter, cream cheese, and sugar until well blended.  Beat in egg yolk and almond extract.  

Gradually blend in flour until completely incorporated.  Add a few drops of food coloring and mix to desired shade. Add to cookie press per instructions

PRO TIP: Form cookies on an ungreased baking sheet or else the cookies will not stick to the baking sheet

Bake for 8-10 minutes until just set on the outside. Let it cool and remove from pan.
